The Scott Mission RFP

The Scott Mission is a local charity located at College St and Spadina Ave, and the subject of much interest for the whole duration of Praxis II.

As the subject community of my Praxis II group's RFP, we paid many a visit to the main building near campus. First on a tour of the facilities, we went in observant and ready to note down whatever difficulites they meet.

From first impressions, the team seemed to unanimously agree on a suitable problem, that of processing donations. Following up on this problem, we learned the details of the donation process. It proceeds as follows, first boxes are unloaded from the truck onto a ramp, boxes follow the ramp into the chute, there it goes down a conveyor belt into the basement, where it is packed onto pallets and taken for storage.

In conversations with the operations manager, Mr.Lynwood Strickland, we learn of his concern at the inordinate amount of manual materials handling (MMH) invloved in the current process.

Sharing this concern, our team decided to foucs upon this issue, so as to alleviate the strain on the staff. We interviewd more stakeholders, such as the staff and gathered more complaints and information regarding this issue.

We focused upon all the lifting stages in the process and detailed the dimensions of the workspace. All the while consulting with our stakeholderd. Thereby we wrote a request for proposal (RFP) for improving The Scott Mission Donation Framework, a copy of which can be downloaded here.
